In this guide you will learn how to Disable Internet Explorer Compatibility View

Internet Explorer has a Compatibility View, a feature that affects how some websites are displayed. If Compatibility View is enabled for domain of your interest, it may cause some or all site’s features to display incorrectly.

How to fix the issue:

To help make sure that your site displays correctly, I suggest that you remove the domain of your interest from your list of sites that have Compatibility View enabled. First of all check the version of your Internet Explorer.

If you can see the top menu on your Internet Explorer open Help menu and select About Internet Explorer, else press F10 key to make them show.

Check if your Internet Explorer is IE 8

If you use Internet explorer 8 you should see an Image as the above.

If you use Internet explorer 9 you should see an Images as follows:

Check if your Internet Explorer is IE 9

Instruction to remove Compatibility mode for your domain:

For IE8

  1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu at the top and select Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Select your domain under “Websites you’ve added to Compatibility View.”
  3. Click Remove.

For IE9

  1. In Internet Explorer, right-click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner, next to the “favorites” star icon. (If you don’t see this gear icon or your “File” and “Tools” menus at the top of your window, press your F10 key to make them show.)
  2. Select Command bar.
  3. Open the Tools menu near the top and select Compatibility View Settings.
  4. Select your domain under “Websites you’ve added to Compatibility View.”
  5. Click Remove.

If the instructions above don’t work:

If you don’t see “your domain” listed, or if you still see a warning regarding compatibility view after following the steps above, please make sure that your computer has the latest Windows updates. See Microsoft’s instructions to fix this issue.

Not having the latest updates can leave your computer unprotected from recent security threats, so it’s important to stay up-to-date. However, if you don’t want to install the latest Windows updates to make sure your computer is protected, here’s what you can do about the compatibility view warning in your domain:

  1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu at the top and select Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Make sure that “your domain” is not in the list called “Websites you’ve added to Compatibility View.” If it is on that list, click Remove.
  3. At the bottom of the window, make sure that the boxes next to “Include updated website lists from Microsoft” and “Display all websites in Compatibility View” are not checked.
  4. Click Close. The page you’re on will refresh and display in normal mode.

Note: If your Windows computer is administered by your organization, you may not be able to access Compatibility View Settings or remove your domain from the list of affected domains. Please contact your administrator or helpdesk as they may have used a Windows group policy setting to set this parameter for you.
